I got another hike in with my mother-in-law yesterday. It was a very grey and drizzly day, but boy was it worth it.
We hiked the Karloo Pool track, which is a there and back 5.5km track. It’s graded hard…and we were a bit unsure at first. It was the hardest one I have done to date (bearing in mind that I did quite a few last year that I am not counting in my 40 hikes list). But it was so worth it!
The Uloola Falls on that board also appeal ;-).
At the bottom, as the name suggests, you are rewarded with amazing pools and I do really want to come back in Summer to try them out. I am sure my boys would also be up for that! We loved the cave that looks almost comfortable enough to sleep in, and even has a window!
It was one for the soul, despite the rain! And stunning flora too!
Oh this one was fun! We had come to Bathurst to explore the region before school goes back next week, and it was so worth it! There are so many tracks and trails around here, but the Evans Crown Track, about 40 minutes drive from Bathurst close to Tarana, really intrigued us. From down below it looked majestic!
The way up was quite steep, lots of steps, we stopped counting at one point. But it’s so worth it. We saw so many butterflies and even a kangaroo hopped past us as we made our way up to the top.
And there was some incredibly fauna too….sooo pretty.
At the top the options are endless! So many paths, in fact there are no clear paths when you are at the top, but there are many ways to explore. We could have spent all day there!
Standing on top of the mountain was pretty special!
As we were on our way back down I insisted that I could climb a particularly large rock for a view of the other side of the valley… I did make it up the rock with some help, but unfortunately quite badly hurt my knee. Which meant that I had to hobble down the steps, down the mountain and was in quite a lot of pain. I am hoping that a few days rest will make it all better!
Not my finest hour…but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
During the last year I have discovered some great bushwalks and hikes in this beautiful country I call home. So, I knew that walking/hiking needed to feature on my ‘list of 40 things‘. And I am not one to hang about, and despite having pretty bad muscle aches in my legs after doing an at home exercise program the day before, I met up with my mother-in-law on Sunday and we walked the Engadine to Heathcote Loop.
We walked the big loop, for about 2hrs and then both got really hungry and had some lunch. I use the AllTrails app to make sure we don’t get lost. It was drizzling a bit when we started, but that wasn’t going to stop us. It actually made for a wonderful, refreshing walk with lots of beautiful and fresh flora.
It’s an easy track, I think it’s used as a mountain biking track as well. Throughout it has little mounds that would make for great jumps on a bike. We had to cross the creek twice, which was flowing well after the recent rain. We tried to find some stepping stones, but in the end stepped through the water as we were not worried about getting our feet wet.
We found a wonderful spot where the huge rocks looked like they may have shifted over time almost like tectonic plates, which enabled the river to run around them…pooling at the bottom. A great swimming hole if ever there was one. Both my mother-in-law and I agreed that my eldest would love to jump into the water there.
All in all, a great first hike for this year! And I have felt recharged all week…need to find the next spot for this weekend!
