Here’s one of my latest finishes for 2015. A birthday dress for my best friends gorgeous little girl Faye, who just turned one year old.
I wanted to give Faye an extra special birthday present, so agreed with my best friend the colours and pattern for this dress.
I have been eyeing up this pattern for a while and had it pinned on my Pinterest for ages (ever since I found out I was pregnant and wasn’t yet sure whether I was having a boy or a girl).
My friend wanted it in cotton, so I used DROPS Muskat, and she picked the colours. I LOVE them, they’re so sunny and bright.
This is the first time I’ve knitted something from the top down, normally I knit from the bottom up and it’s brilliant as there’s only very minimal sewing up.
And I love the knitted picot edge that was used on the top over the ruffled sleeves and I also used it on the bottom of the skirt, and it just looks sooo cute.
The nice thing about this dress is all the little added details, like the puffed sleeves and the collar, which was really easy to knit on, knitting straight into the stitches that were already there.
Also, due to the simple construction the dress can actually be worn either way, with the buttons in the front or in the back. Although, I think I like it better with the buttons in the back.
And now the highlight, gorgeous Faye wearing her dress the day it was received in the post…one happy customer!
