A good friend of mine, who has a son the same age as Luke, also had her second boy earlier this year. She and I used to hang out a lot when Luke and her son were little, back when we lived in North London. I knew I wanted to knit for her, I just had to find the right patterns.
I knitted a few things for her little boy, first off this gorgeous little cardigan. I’ve knitted this before in a few different sizes. This DROPS Design pattern I knitted in a size 1/3 months.
I had some yarn leftover from when I knitted boleros a year ago. And it’s such a gorgeous yarn, DROPS BabyAlpaca Silk.
It’s amazing how soft it is and when I was knitting it my fingers felt lovely and soft too. Because it calls for 2.5mm needles it does take a little bit longer to knit up, but that’s why it’s nice to knit this in the smallest size.
I had these buttons in my stash, originally ordered from Textile Garden and they add a nice little touch to the brown cardigan.
I love the cable detailing, especially how the cables that run along the buttonbands are repeated in the yoke.
The photos don’t really do the colours justice. It is actually a lovely warm brown.
I also knitted a matching beanie (part of the same pattern) and my booties for my friend’s darling boy.
Here’s a shot of all three items together before I sent them off.
And one gorgeous sleeping baby boy wearing his cardigan and beanie.
