Yarn Along: March

I have been reading Ginny’s blog Small Things for a while, but I have never joined into her wonderful monthly ‘yarn along‘ round up. But today I am finally changing that.

I am on the homestretch of the test knit I am doing for the wonderful Yvonne from Aida Sofie Knitting Design. This is the third time I am test knitting for Yvonne and I love taking part. Her designs involve a fair amount of colour work, which I really enjoy. Those that follow me on Instagram will know of my dilemma with this. I was actually almost finished with this knit last week, but I was very unhappy with my colour choice and I felt that my colour work was too tight and no amount of blocking would have been enough to stretch it out. So, I unravelled…and this was at the point where I only had the second sleeve to finish.

I am really excited about the colours and the eagle-eyed among you will see that I was able to include some glittery yarn within the unicorn pattern.

I am not doing a lot of reading, but when I do get a chance I am trying to finish ‘Dragonfly in Amber’ by Diana Gabaldon the second book in the Outlander series. I have watched all three series currently available and absolutely love the books and the show, but clearly not enough to finish reading the book…or it might be a lack of time!

I am also trying to decide on buttons for this cardigan I made for my youngest, because I am really not happy with the ones that I sewed on the other week, they just don’t fit right.

Late WIP Wednesday

I know, I know I am a day late with my WIP Wednesday. I meant to post it yesterday and I had taken the pictures for it, but I got busy seeing a friend for dinner…so didn’t have the time. I know I mentioned that I was going to be knitting something for myself, well here is a sneak preview. I am working on this cardigan for myself.

21.05.14 1

I am LOVING the colour. I do love the pattern, but it seems to be taking me ages to finish it. It could also be because I am not getting as much time as I used to for knitting. But, I only have the second front to finish and the two sleeves, so with it being a long weekend here in the UK I might get it done.

I also wanted to show you guys my new knitting basket that I got from a friend who moved back to Germany recently. It’s gorgeous, and her grandfather actually made it. And it means that when I have kids here during the day I can just put everything in my basket and put it high up on our shelf.

WIP Wednesday

I’ve got two things on the go at the moment. They are both very quick items that I love knitting and that I’ve knitted A LOT in the last year…but to be honest I still haven’t blogged about them all…so watch this space.

The first WIPs are these booties, following the Saartjes Bootees pattern, but with my alteration. These are for a boy, hence my colour choices.

The other WIP is a matching beanie, and it’s another much used pattern of mine.

I wasn’t 100% convinced about the colours initially, but now I really like them. I think they’re perfect for Spring and since this baby boy is due beginning of May I think they’ll work perfectly.

WIPW 02.04.14 1I’ve also just finished something for Luke…and had to order some buttons for it from TextileGarden…there are some really pretty ones left over that make me think that I should find something for myself to knit to fit with the buttons. Have you ever done that, knitted around buttons that you had?

And finally, just a quick preview of what I just finished for Luke.

WIP Wednesday

I’ve actually got something to show you today. I’ve started my biggest project ever, I think. A blanket that I’m knitting as a gift for an upcoming wedding (top secret :-)).

It’s knitted in squares, and in the last three days I’ve managed to knit 3. That was with not much time for knitting, so I actually think that I’ll be able to finish it by the end of August. I’m actually going to be making it bigger than the pattern calls for, but I haven’t quite decided on the finished size, I think I’ll just keep going with the squares until I run out of yarn. It’s quite handy each square uses up one 50g ball of yarn.

So, without further ado, here are the squares I’ve knitted so far.

And here’s the square I’m currently working on.
