I have these two pairs of woolly socks that I knitted about 15 years ago (a long time basically) and they’re starting to show some wear…and I’ve just seen some holes in the heels of one pair. So it was only fitting that I knitted myself a pair over Christmas.
I’ve had this pattern in my queue on Ravelry for ages and ordered this pink yarn for exactly these socks last year. I am so pleased that I finally managed to knit them for myself.
The leaf pattern on the front looks intricate and delicate, but it’s actually really easy to knit and I didn’t have to look at the pattern too many times after having knit it a couple of times.
Knitting cables instead of a purl/knit rib felt a bit funny initially as I didn’t think it would create the right effect, but it actually worked out really well. It’s nice and stretchy, but also sits well on my legs.
The yarn is DROPS Fabel, and while I normally knit socks with a self-striping yarn, which I absolutely love, I wanted to stick to a plain colour to give the leaf pattern the chance to shine.
And without further ado, here are some action shots of me wearing my socks. I absolutely love them. They are a little loose, but they keep my toes and feet lovely and warm.
